iPhone vs Android for Gaming

The never-ending debate about whether iPhone or Android devices are better for mobile gaming continues to rage on heading into 2017. It is time that this epic battle of opinions comes to a conclusion. So we have decided to put their different pros and cons head-to-head to see which platform comes out on top.

Game Choice

This argument should start with the most important aspect of mobile gaming. The choice of games available to play. It is no secret that iOS offers a far wider choice of games. This is highlighted by titles such as the Infinity Blade series that was released exclusively on the iOS platform leaving Android users very envious.

The ability for iOS to secure these exclusivity deals gives them a heavy advantage over Android. It is the advantage Apple has with such a sizeable share of the market. It can use its punch power to gain exclusive rights to some of the biggest games.

The Costs

Being able to seal a deal for the exclusive rights to a top title comes with its downsides. The developer is forced to charge players more for access to these games and other titles as well. This is certainly the case with iOS. There are a number of games available on iOS that require a fee from players where the same game is available for free on Android platform.

Players only need to see Angry Birds as an example of this. The iconic game was initially released in 2009 and has gone on to be downloaded in its various guises over 2 billion times. However, players were forced to pay a one-off fee to download the game onto iOS devices where as Android users enjoyed the benefit of playing the game for free.

Device Quality

The one obvious difference between iOS and Android platforms is the fact that there is a much wider selection of devices available for gamers to choose from across the Android platform compared to the iOS platform. However, does that mean that the Android platform boasts the higher quality of device?

Where as iOS only covers Apple branded devices such as iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, the Android platform offers a huge number of devices from manufacturers such as HTC, Samsung, LG, Huawei, Sony, and Google. That said, it is generally considered that the best devices on the market have been developed by Apple and are available to purchase on the iOS platform. Less selection for iOS but a better quality. This could be a decisive aspect for a mobile casino gamer from Canada where attention to detail is vital (especially within interactive slot games). Yet, for your average gamer that is happy with Candy Crush Saga or Subway Surfers it might not be such a big deal.

The quality of the device will be more important to mobile casino gamers than more recreational gamers.

Value for Money

If you consider that iOS devices offer the higher quality of device then it is worth going further and asking which platform has the devices that are the best value for money. If you are paying £50 per month for the best device when you could be paying £30 per month for one of the better devices that still falls short of the best.

Essentially, players need to consider what each device can offer. If the graphics and sound are not too different from the top-of-the-range iOS devices then it could be worth investing in an Android device. The sacrifice of quality would almost certainly be worth the budget savings.

User Friendliness

One defining factor for potential buyers could be seen as the user-friendly side of the devices available on both platforms. Android has long been praised for its design and easy-to-use navigation. On the flip side, iOS has built a reputation for putting the user first over recent years and this has set it apart from its competitors.

The most convincing side of the argument is that once an individual has used the iOS platform they rarely look back. Android users can sometimes struggle to get used to a device’s design with the different manufacturers opting for different layouts. The stream-lined set-up on iOS devices means users know where they stand with convenience and navigation a priority.

Overall

At the end of the day, the argument over whether iOS or Android is the better device for gaming really depends on the individual. When it comes to gaming, some players put graphics as the most important attribute where as others will put gameplay at the top. For players where cost is no objective then iOS is arguably the better option.

Unfortunately, we live in an age where not everybody can afford the top-of-the-range models and cost does become a crucial deciding factor. For those that have one eye on counting the pennies it is likely that they will find a more affordable Android device that might have less games available to play but will have less of a devastating impact on the bank account.
